Dishoom Loves

BRAND EXPERIENCE | IMMERSIVE DESIGN | CULTURAL FESTIVAL

Dishoom Loves Market is Dishoom’s annual celebration of South Asian talent, bringing together a curated mix of independent makers, artists and brands. Set within the brick arches of East London’s Kachette, These Days was invited to design an environment that could showcase this diversity while creating a strong, unified sense of place. The result was a South Asian inspired marketplace that felt rich, celebratory and rooted in visual culture, while remaining flexible enough to support a wide range of stallholders and products.

Kachette’s brick arches provided a strong architectural framework and shaped our early thinking around scale, repetition and flow. The market was designed to sit comfortably within this space, creating a layered and immersive environment that complimented the architecture rather than overpowering it. Form, colour and material were used to bring energy to the space while keeping the character of the venue clearly legible.

A clear spatial strategy was developed to balance movement, visibility and discovery. Stalls were arranged as a flowing sequence that encouraged guests to wander and explore, with careful consideration given to sightlines, circulation and moments of pause. Variations in height, colour and material helped create visual rhythm, ensuring the space felt lively and active without becoming overwhelming.

Our design process began with broad research into South Asian markets, street culture and traditions. We explored colour, materiality, pattern and form, drawing from bustling bazaars, layered textiles, hand-painted signage and the tactile qualities of everyday market architecture.

Rather than imitation, the aim was to translate the spirit of these environments into a contemporary visual language that felt authentic and respectful. This research informed everything from colour palettes and finishes to the overall rhythm and density of the space.

Central to the project was the design of a modular stall system that could adapt to the needs of each maker while remaining part of a cohesive whole. A family of stall structures was developed using bold colour, layered finishes and textured surfaces, providing a rich backdrop for the products on display. Each stall was subtly tailored through layout, shelving, lighting and detailing to suit different disciplines, from jewellery and skincare to textiles and artwork.

As guests moved through the market, they encountered a vibrant, tactile environment that encouraged slow exploration and discovery. The experience celebrated South Asian creativity while feeling distinctly Dishoom, generous, joyful and alive.
